Outings & visits
Nutkins is situated opposite Central Park; this is the scene of the annual sports day, which starts with a picnic. It also witnesses the pancake race, with both children and parents encouraged to take part.
Helen and Tom enjoying their pancake race the park.
There are mud hunts, treasure hunts, visits to the allotments and nature trails. The changing seasons can be witnessed by the children. Groups visit the museum and art gallery, the aquarium and there is an annual all day trip, often to Paignton Zoo.
The adult / child ratio on outings is 1:2 to enable activities to happen.
Parent partnership
There is a “parents evening”, once a year; but parents can come and talk over an “issue” or “concern” at any time. Parental help is required for outings and visits to enable the correct child/adult ratio for the event to take place. Parents have taken up the opportunity to attend college, to study childcare, and have their placement at Nutkins.
Parents are encouraged to join the “fund raising” committee to support the work at Nutkins, to widen their social circle, to benefit from learning/improving skills.
