Nutkins is a community business, “not for profit” Ltd by
guarantee. It is run by a Board of Directors, comprising staff
members, community workers and parents.
The atmosphere is very friendly, the staff are all good friends,
and are all parents themselves. Most of the staff’s children
attended Nutkins in the past. The staff, and the Directors, are
dedicated to providing an excellent childcare setting.

Nutkins is situated opposite Central Park; this is the scene of the annual sports day, which starts with a picnic. It also witnesses the pancake race, with both children and parents encouraged to take part.
There are mud hunts, treasure hunts, visits to the allotments
and nature trails. The changing seasons can be witnessed by the
children.
The adult / child ratio on outings is 1:2 to enable activities to
happen.

Parents are encouraged to stay with their child until that child
has “settled”. This is for a period of up to 4 weeks for the 2 year
olds, or at the discretion of the staff.
There is a “parent rota” for those that would like to actively give
“hands on” help.
There is a “parents evening”, once a year; but parents can come
and talk over an “issue” or “concern” at any time. Parental help is
required for outings and visits to enable the correct child/adult
ratio for the event to take place. Parents have taken up the
opportunity to attend college, to study childcare, and have their
placement at Nutkins.
Parents are encouraged to join the “fund raising” committee to
support the work at Nutkins, to widen their social circle, to
benefit from learning/improving skills.
